2021-2022 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

- When does school begin? 
Our first day of school is Tuesday, August 10, 2021. Classes begin at 8:15 am for all students. Students 1st - 6th grade dismiss at 2:35 pm. 

- What will the instructional day look like for the new year?
CNUSD intends to return to a full instructional day which means a full-time regular bell schedule for the upcoming 21-22 school year within CDPH guidelines. Click here to see our school Bell Schedule by grade.

- Are facemasks still mandatory for students indoors? 
Masks are required for everyone indoors in K-12 schools while student programs are indoors.  

- Are facemasks mandatory outside? 
No, masks will no longer be mandatory outdoors on CNUSD campuses. 

- Will classrooms still have plastic barriers?
Plastic barriers will be removed from student desks. 

- Is physical distancing still required? 
Physical distancing is no longer required in the classroom setting.  

- What will lunch look like? 
Extra tables and umbrellas have been provided at our school sites and classes will be assigned tables to eat together during lunch. All students will have access to a free lunch from our Child Nutrition Services for the 21-22 school year. 

- Will schools be providing temperature checks? 
School sites will no longer check students’ temperature upon arrival to school, but we ask families to continue to self-screen for any COVID-19 symptoms prior to coming to school. Visitors will be temperature checked upon arrival to the school site.  

- Is transportation provided?
CNUSD provides fee-supported transportation for Elementary students (grades K through 6) for whom the distance from their primary residence to their school of attendance is greater than 2.0 miles, measured from the nearest pedestrian access of the campus along public streets and trails. To complete a Bus Pass application, please visit www.cnusd.k12.ca.us/transportation

- Will parents be allowed to accompany students to their classrooms on the first day of school? 
No. Under the current CDPH guidance for schools, our campuses are still closed to parents, volunteers, and on-campus visitors. Staff will be available to assist students in finding their classrooms the first week of school.  

- When do we anticipate CDC and CDPH update their school guidance? 
CDPH recognizes that many school districts are planning and starting schooling as early as July. They are waiting for the CDC to update their school guidance in order to avoid potential confusion associated with releasing guidance prior to CDC.  

- When will I know which class my child is in? 
Parents will be able to view student assignments and schedules on Aug. 3rd.
